Questions
What leaders usually ask
Short answers to the questions heads, deputies and data leads ask most.
How does it fit with self-evaluation and Estyn?
It doesn't replace your own self-evaluation. It gives your senior team a clear starting point each half-term, maps its findings to Estyn's inspection areas and shows whether the actions you chose made a difference.
Do we need to connect Bromcom?
No. Pupil Outlook never links to Bromcom. Each half-term you type the figures into a short form, or, if you prefer, upload a report you already run. Pupil lists are turned into group totals on your own computer, and the pupil rows are discarded before anything is saved.
Is it a forecast we can hold staff to?
No. It shows likely ranges and says how confident it is about each one. Every forecast is checked against your next half-term's figures, so you can see how far to trust it for your school.
Where do the recommendations come from?
Actions are rated using the Education Endowment Foundation and Youth Endowment Fund toolkits. Where there's no strong evidence, the tool says so rather than dressing it up.
Can primary schools take part?
Yes, through the Year 6 transition return. A primary sends group totals for its Year 6, with small numbers hidden, and the secondary sees its whole incoming Year 7.
What does the pilot ask of us?
Use test or anonymised group totals, try it with your senior team for at least a half-term, and tell us what worked and what didn't.
Our data protection officer needs a DPIA. Can you help?
Yes. Download our DPIA template, already filled in with how Pupil Outlook works, and see how we keep data safe. During the pilot, schools use test or anonymised group totals only.
Is it available in Welsh?
Not yet. If your school would need it in Welsh, say so when you apply or register interest. It helps decide what comes next.
