For primary schools

Help your Year 6 settle into secondary school

Share your Year 6 as group totals with your cluster secondary, safely, so your pupils' next school can plan for them before they arrive.

How the Year 6 return works

A short page for primary schools. It takes the Year 6 information you already hold and turns it into group totals your secondary can use.

  1. 1

    Choose your secondary

Pick the secondary most of your Year 6 pupils move on to, then your own school.

  2. 2

    Add your Year 6 figures

Upload a Year 6 list from your MIS with names removed, or type the totals in. Leave anything you don't have blank.

  3. 3

    Check what's shared

The page shows exactly what goes to the secondary. Groups under 5 pupils are hidden automatically.

  4. 4

    Send it

Email the file to your secondary. They import it and see their whole incoming Year 7 before September.

What's shared, and what isn't

Group totals onlyAttendance, reading, eFSM share and additional learning needs for your Year 6 as a group.

No namesNo names, UPNs, dates of birth or addresses leave your school.

Small groups hiddenAny group under 5 pupils is left out, so no child can be picked out.

You see it firstNothing is sent until you've checked it and emailed it yourself.

How it helps your school

  • Your pupils are expected

Their secondary can plan support, staffing and transition work before September, rather than finding out in October.

  • A safe way to hand over

One consistent return for your cluster, with no pupil names in emails or spreadsheets.

  • A shared picture for the cluster

Secondary leaders see which primaries have sent a return, so transition conversations start from the same figures.

  • Little extra work

It uses information you already hold in your MIS, in a short form with nothing to install.

What's coming for primary schools

Today, primary schools take part through the Year 6 return. We want to hear what would help primary leaders most.
