About

Built in Swansea, for Welsh schools

Pupil Outlook helps senior teams make every hour of staff time and every pound count: it challenges the plan, sets clear goals and keeps the work streamlined, one half-term at a time.

Why it exists

Budgets are tight

Schools are being asked to do more with less. When money and staff time are squeezed, leaders need to know which actions are most likely to make a difference before they commit to them.

Literacy and numeracy come first

Pupils who read and work with numbers confidently can access the whole curriculum. We believe these foundations deserve the sharpest focus, and the clearest evidence of what helps.

Plans drift

A plan written in September can lose its shape by Easter. Leaders need a simple, regular way to see whether it is working and to change course in time.

A critical friend for your senior team

Pupil Outlook isn't there to make decisions. It is there to challenge the thinking behind them.

  1. 1

    Challenge the thinking

What happens if nothing changes? What does the evidence say? What will it cost in staff time? Every option is laid out with the same questions, so the conversation in SLT starts from facts, not hunches.

  2. 2

    Set clearer goals

Each priority gets a measurable target, checkpoint dates and the figure that would tell you the plan isn't working, so everyone knows what success looks like.

  3. 3

    Streamline the work

One page for the meeting, one calendar for the plan, and the SLT pack and governors' report made from the same figures. Less time on paperwork, more time on pupils.

How we work

  • Every figure is labelled as your data, published research or a model estimate. Where the evidence is weak, we say so.
  • Group figures only, never pupil records. Names are refused and small groups are hidden. How we keep data safe
  • Made for Wales: Estyn's inspection areas, the Pupil Development Grant, the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation and the Welsh school year are built in.
  • Independent: not affiliated with Estyn, Bromcom or the Welsh Government, and not endorsed by the Education Endowment Foundation or the Youth Endowment Fund, whose published research it uses.
